Stefan Savides

Artist’s Bio

Stefan Savides’ life is about birds and art. He has never worked a day in his life that he was not recreating birds in one form or another. While taxidermy, which he has worked his way to the top of his profession internationally, has been his mainstay for most of his adult life, this multi-talented artist, from a young age has painted, carved, mounted and sculpted birds. Stefan’s taxidermy won him top world honors everywhere he went, and since he has judged World Taxidermy Championships for over two decades.

Sculpting was to become a natural progression for Stefan, he was given the prestigious assignment of sculpting a complete line of taxidermy forms that are used by taxidermists worldwide. His reputation for excellence in his field prompted Dick Cabela, founder of the famed national outdoor stores, Cabelas, to hire him as his personal field taxidermist, traveling the world with him and his family.

Taxidermy was not by any means his only art form, from an early age, he was inspired and influenced by his artist mother, who encouraged Stefan to explore rendering of birds in other mediums, such as carving painting, and of course sculpture.

Sculpting in bronze was a natural progression from taxidermy, as it provides a lasting expression of his knowledge of avian anatomy and design. Years of intense study coupled with a flair for simplistic design equates to renderings that capture the essence of his subjects in tasteful clean works of art. His work is to the point, without the distraction of every detail. Stefan is truly a multitalented artist who has proven himself in a variety of mediums and venues.

Stefan has been featured in numerous national publications such as Western Art and Architecture, Western Art Collector, American Taxidermist and others. He is a signature member in the Society of Animal Artists and a member of the National Sculpture Society.
