Artist’s Bio

A native of Nebraska, Lamb was educated at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Creighton University, Omaha. Although an artist her whole life, she completed her art degrees while raising her three children, coming to Colorado with her family from Omaha in 1975 with her husband’s transfer to work on the Eisenhower Tunnel at the Continental Divide. She worked primarily as a painter and printmaker in Omaha before embarking on sculpting in 1982. Her sculpture studies included workshops with Francisco Zuniga and other renown sculptors. He stressed that it is important to create “what you are from”, a philosophy she has consistently adhered to. She can attest to winning awards in every genre she has worked in over the years.

Memberships include the North American Sculpture Society and Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. Darlis has several renown collectors, including authors Amy Tan and Patricia Cornwell, movie producer Ron Howard, actor Ron Pollack, Steve Davis, AOL founder and Alan Simpson, former Senator from Wyoming. The Space Foundation proudly featured her beautiful original bronze medallion for several years by awarding it to Space Technology Hall of Fame recipients at their annual International Space Symposium in Colorado Springs. NASA has produced a number of recipients in the roster of awardees. The awards represent finding uses in everyday life for technology discoveries in space. She has also completed a number of commissions for other prominent organizations, including the American Lung Association of Colorado and Colorado Osteopathic Foundation, along with private commissions.

She has three permanent bronzes in Benson Park Sculpture Garden in Loveland, Colorado – The Old Greek, The Old Greek’s Wife and The View, a bas relief. She was the third woman to have a permanent bronze added to the Park and the first woman to complete 25 consecutive years of participation in their Annual Sculpture in the Park. Darlis has taught several workshops in figurative terra cotta sculpture in Colorado and New Mexico.

Recent feature articles in major publications include Denver Woman magazine in June/July, 2010 – “Darlis Lamb-Images in Bronze”, and the U.K.’s Belen Echandia web site profiling Lifestyles, “Inspirational Women – Moments with Darlis Lamb”. She was Profiled in Southwest Art magazine’s July, 2010 Sculpture issue. The national magazine has featured her by invitation four times over the years, the first time with a full feature article in 1989. Darlis is also included in Southwest Art’s new hardcover book, Sculpture of the Rockies, with a full page Profile and photograph of “Madame Rose”. Additional recent publications again include a Profile in Southwest Art magazine’s July, 2013 Sculpture Edition and inclusion in author Stan Shur’s book Successful Women Speak Out ~ A Collection of Personal Experience and Wisdom from Successful American Women. The National Sculpture Society included a question/answer Profile with photographs of several sculptures created during her career in their August, 2013 News Bulletin. Her national and international published references include Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Art, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who of American Women. These listings have been included for over ten years and can be found in public libraries across the country.

Darlis’s career began as a painter. Her transition into sculpting was a natural transition, especially with her “French Lessons” series of bronze still life compositions. The series is simply titled with French and English titles, leaving the interpretation to the viewer, which also gives completion to the work. As she has stated “I have my story and they have theirs. I am amazed by some of the poignant and personal stories I hear.
