Artist Bio

German Jaramillo-Mckenzie is a professional artist who paints representational oil paintings. After immigrating from China in 1989, he became a Canadian citizen in 1995.

German graduated as a graphic designer in his country of origin, Colombia. He was interested in drawing and painting in his early years and he knew that oil painting was his passion. Early in his career, German worked in the animation industry for TV, taught university classes, and freelanced for publishing companies.

German honed his talents in China with Master Zhu Wei Ming and in the USA with Michael Dudash, an illustrator, a fine artist, and member of the Cowboy Artists of America. German’s international experience includes exhibitions in Germany, Hong Kong, Romania, Beijing, Colombia and the USA.

Along with oil paintings, German has developed a great interest in public art, dioramas and backdrops. A total of 18 artworks are displayed in five provinces: Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria.

German’s oil paintings are in private and corporate collections around the globe. In Canada, his oil paintings are now hanging in corporations including CAMECO Corporation, Crown Life Insurance, SGI and SaskPower, as well as privately at the Wascana Rehab Centre, MLT LLP lawyers, the Shurniak Art Gallery Foundation and with individual collectors.

Since he moved to Victoria in 2017, German has participated in juried art shows for Sooke Fine Arts and The Sidney Fine Art Show. He is currently working in large format paintings that encompass his life experience in Victoria.
